Q: Does Theme Park World work in Windows XP?
A: It does, but on certain XP systems, the game crashes to desktop without any error message. To fix this problem, do the following:

  • Uninstall any current installation of the game using Add/Remove Programs
  • Reboot
  • Delete any remaining game-related directories and files (save games, log files, etc.)
  • Install Theme Park World
  • Apply the Theme Park World V2.0 patch (from the Downloads section)
  • Reboot - you MUST reboot here!
  • Download the required fix file from the Downloads section
  • Run the installer by simply double-clicking the MSI file.
  • When prompted for a directory, enter the exact path of where the game is currently installed.

You should now be able to run the game under Windows XP.

Q: I'm running Windows XP and I receive an error message - 'LpkPresent not found in usp10.dll' when I run the game. How can I fix it?
A: Theme Park World supplies its own version of this DLL when it installs the game. This is not always compatible with certain configurations of Windows XP. Open Windows Explorer at your Theme Park World installation directory (default location is C:\Program Files\Bullfrog\Theme Park World) and rename usp10.dll to _usp10.dll. This action will force Windows XP to use its own (later) version of the DLL and should allow the game to play.

Q: When I try and run my game the screen goes black and nothing happens.
A: This problem can occur for a number of reasons.

Firstly, make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements for the game in question. In order to do this, please check the back of the game box.

If your PC meets all of these requirements, you may need to update the version of DirectX that you are using . Contained on the game CD is a version of DirectX which will be the most up-to-date version at time of release of the game. However, these may not always be the most recent as DirectX is continually being updated. For example, if you are playing one of our older games, such as one of our "Classic" releases, you may need to download the latest version of Direct X from the internet. DirectX can be downloaded from Microsoft's Games for Windows website.

You will need to update the drivers for your video card and/or sound card in order to make them compatible with the latest version of DirectX. In order to do this you will need to download the latest drivers from your manufacturer's website.

Finally, you may need to change the resolution that your desktop is set to. To change your desktop resolution, right click anywhere on your desktop and select Properties. Now click on the Settings tab and adjust the "Screen Area" slider bar to 800 x 600. Click on apply, then confirm that you want to keep the new resolution. Now try to run the game again.

Q: What are drivers and how do I update them?
A: Drivers is a term used to describe the software that controls each of the seperate parts of your PC. The most common drivers control your video card, your sound card, and your motherboard.

Today's games require that your drivers are compatible with the version of DirectX that the game uses. It is therefore necessary to update the drivers on your PC from time to time, in order to keep your PC upto date.

Updating drivers is a simple process, normally involving downloading the updates from your manufacturer's website.

Q: My game crashes during installation.
A: There are several steps you can take if you are having problems actually installing the game onto your PC.

First of all, make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive. Look on the back of the game's box next to "HARD DRIVE" to see how much you need. Remember you'll normally need an additional 500MB for the Windows swap file, on top of the amount required by the game.

Always try installing the game using the default options - do change the installation type, or the destination directory.

If you have more than one CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive then try installing the game from the first drive letter - e.g. If you have your CD/DVD drives assigned to letters D: and E:, use the drive assigned to D:

If this does not help, try deleting the files in your Windows\Temp folder.

Also try closing down your backgroung applications before you attempt to install any software.

To close background programs, follow these simple instructions:

Press the CTRL and ALT keys on your keyboard. They can be found to the left of your spacebar. Whilst still holding these keys down, press the Delete key. The Close Program window will appear.

Only Explorer and SysTray should be listed in this window. If there are any other entries (there may be several), click on one of them, and then click End Task.

At this point the window will disapear, so press CTRL, ALT and Delete again, and continue to go through the list closing one program at a time. Your anti-virus program will not stop by this method. In the corner where you have your clock, you should see an icon for your anti-virus program. Right click this icon and left click "Unload" or Disable.

Once you have closed all your programs except Explorer and Systray, your system is free of any background programs that may be causing problems with your game.

Q: How do I close all my background applications in Windows XP?
A: To close background programs, follow these simple instructions:

Press the CTRL and ALT keys on your keyboard. They can be found to the left of your spacebar. Whilst still holding these keys down, press the Delete key. The windows task manager will appear.

Click on the Processes tab, and you will see a list of all the background applications you have running. To close an application highlight the desired file from the list and then click on the 'End Process' button.

Here is a list of processes that must stay open:

Windows XP required processes:

system
smss.exe
csrss.exe
winlogon.exe
services.exe
lsass.exe
svchost.exe (there may be multiple instances of this one, all required)
Explorer
spoolsv.exe

Q: When installing or running I am getting a "Please insert Correct CD-Rom" or "Cannot Detect CD-Rom" error message
A:
  • Try placing the CD in another CDROM device and running the game
  • We have found that the game works best by placing the game in the device with the lowest drive letter. For example a drive D will have priority over a drive H.
  • Try placing an audio CD in the other drive(s)
  • Uninstall & Reinstall

Q: How can I uninstall my game? I have tried add/remove programs, yet it still remains.
A: The most common cause of this problem is the Windows registry still containing information about your game. The game itself may be deleted from your system, but Windows thinks its still installed, as the registry has not been cleaned up properly. To remove the program or re-install it you will need to manually clean up the registry. To do this, click on START, then RUN, and type REGEDIT and press Enter.

The Registry Editor will appear on your screen. Be very careful to follow these instructions exactly. Do not modify any other item in the registry as you may cause harm to the correct operation of Windows.

Navigate to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Be sure to double click on the "Uninstall" folder so that the contents of this folder are displyed.

Look down this list and you should find a folder for the game you're having trouble with. Simply right click on this folder, and choose delete. Note - do not delete the whole Uninstall folder, or any other folders under any circumstances.

Now, exit the Registry Editor, and you should then be able to re-install the game if you wish.
